Ezekiel Chapter 1 — The Field Report

Why the Torah Translation — Not a Christian Bible

The text presented here is drawn from Chabad.org's Complete Jewish Bible (Judaica Press), the standard English rendering of the Hebrew Torah tradition used by the Jewish community worldwide. This is not the King James Bible or any Christian translation.


The Christian Old Testament was translated from the Greek Septuagint — itself a translation of the original Hebrew made in the 3rd century BCE — introducing a second layer of interpretive drift before the text reached English. Every translation embeds the theological assumptions of its translators. The Chabad.org rendering stays as close as possible to the original Hebrew, preserving words that Christian translations flatten into theological vocabulary.


The most important example: chashmal (חַשְׁמַל). Christian Bibles render this as amber, electrum, or gleaming bronze — forcing an untranslatable term into a familiar material. The Hebrew carries the meaning of a luminous, electrically active phenomenon. Keeping it as chashmal is accuracy, not obscurantism. OSI methodology requires starting from the most faithful available rendering of the observer's original words. Ezekiel 1:1–4 — The Approach
1:1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year in the fourth month on the fifth day of the month, as I was in the midst of the exile by the river Chebar — the heavens opened up, and I saw visions of God. א וַיְהִי בִּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה בָּרְבִיעִי בַּחֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ וַאֲנִי בְתוֹךְ הַגּוֹלָה עַל נְהַר כְּבָר נִפְתְּחוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וָאֶרְאֶה מַרְאוֹת אֱלֹהִים
1:3 The word of the Lord was revealed to Ezekiel the son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar, and the hand of the Lord came upon him there. ג הָיֹה הָיָה דְבַר יְהֹוָה אֶל יְחֶזְקֵאל בֶּן בּוּזִי הַכֹּהֵן בְּאֶרֶץ כַּשְׂדִּים עַל נְהַר כְּבָר
1:4 And I saw, and behold, a tempest was coming from the north, a huge cloud and a flaming fire with a brightness around it; and from its midst, it was like the color of the chashmal from the midst of the fire. ד וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה רוּחַ סְעָרָה בָּאָה מִן הַצָּפוֹן עָנָן גָּדוֹל וְאֵשׁ מִתְלַקַּחַת וְנֹגַהּ לוֹ סָבִיב וּמִתּוֹכָהּ כְּעֵין הַחַשְׁמַל מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ
OSI NOTE Ezekiel records an exact date, location, and his own identity — the behavior of a witness, not a visionary. The object approaches from the north. At distance it presents as a storm cloud with electrical activity and a luminous corona. Chashmal — the Hebrew term preserved untranslated — describes a luminous, electrically active phenomenon with no English equivalent. This is the craft's electromagnetic field corona seen at approach distance.
Ezekiel 1:5–8 — The Living Beings
1:5 And from its midst was the likeness of four living beings, and this is their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. ה וּמִתּוֹכָהּ דְּמוּת אַרְבַּע חַיּוֹת וְזֶה מַרְאֵיהֶן דְּמוּת אָדָם לָהֵנָּה
1:6 And each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. ו וְאַרְבָּעָה פָנִים לְאֶחָת וְאַרְבַּע כְּנָפַיִם לְאַחַת לָהֶם
1:7 And their legs were a straight leg, and the soles of their feet were like a round foot, and they sparkled like the color of burnished copper. ז וְרַגְלֵיהֶם רֶגֶל יְשָׁרָה וְכַף רַגְלֵיהֶם כְּכַף רֶגֶל עֵגֶל וְנֹצְצִים כְּעֵין נְחֹשֶׁת קָלָל
1:8 And human hands were beneath their wings on their four sides, and their faces and their wings were the same to all four of them. ח וִידֵי אָדָם מִתַּחַת כַּנְפֵיהֶם עַל אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶם
OSI NOTE Four distinct biological entities. The likeness of a man — bipedal, upright, humanoid in body plan, not human. Legs straight — fully erect bipedal stance. Soles of feet like a round foot — a rounded heel structure, distinct from the flat human heel. Seen from directly below, the foot terminates in a circular rounded form. Hands beneath their wings — forelimbs fully independent from the wing structure, free and functional below the wing attachment point. Ezekiel is resolving anatomy he has never seen before using the only vocabulary available to him.
Ezekiel 1:9–12 — Movement and Faces
1:10 And the likeness of their faces was the face of a man, and the face of a lion was on their right, to the four of them, and the face of an ox to their left, to the four of them, and the face of an eagle was to the four of them. י וּדְמוּת פְּנֵיהֶם פְּנֵי אָדָם וּפְנֵי אַרְיֵה אֶל הַיָּמִין לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם וּפְנֵי שׁוֹר מֵהַשְּׂמֹאל לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן וּפְנֵי נֶשֶׁר לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן
OSI NOTE Four different faces across four individuals — man, lion, ox, eagle. This is where Persistence of Vision becomes the explanation. Ezekiel is standing fixed below a rotating craft. Each of the four beings passes through the same point in his line of sight once per rotation. At operational rotation speed they pass faster than his visual system can fully separate them — so what he perceives is a blended composite: four faces seen as a continuous impression rather than four distinct sequential individuals. The face of a man, a lion, an ox, an eagle — not one creature with four heads simultaneously, but four individuals with four different cranial profiles cycling through the same bearing, one after the other, fast enough that the faces merge in his perception. He records exactly what he experienced. The rotating craft did the rest.
Ezekiel 1:13–14 — Fire and Lightning
1:13 Their appearance was like fiery coals, burning like the appearance of firebrands; it was going among the living beings; and there was a brightness to the fire and from the fire came forth lightning. יג וּדְמוּת הַחַיּוֹת מַרְאֵיהֶם כְּגַחֲלֵי אֵשׁ בֹּעֲרוֹת כְּמַרְאֵה הַלַּפִּידִים וְנֹגַהּ לָאֵשׁ וּמִן הָאֵשׁ יוֹצֵא בָרָק
1:14 And the living beings would run and return, like the appearance of the sparks. יד וְהַחַיּוֹת רָצוֹא וָשׁוֹב כְּמַרְאֵה הַבָּזָק
OSI NOTE The craft is rotating above Ezekiel as he watches from a fixed position below. Each of the four beings passes through the same point in his line of sight once per revolution — appearing, disappearing, and appearing again as the craft completes each rotation. From below, each pass reads as a flash of motion — like a spark — and then the being is gone again as the craft carries it around to the other side. "Run and return like the appearance of the sparks" is Ezekiel's description of a rotating craft carrying four biological entities past the same bearing, repeatedly, at speed.
Ezekiel 1:15 — KEY VERSE: The Wheel and the Four
1:15 And I saw the living beings, and behold, one wheel was on the ground beside the living beings for its four faces. טו וָאֵרֶא הַחַיּוֹת וְהִנֵּה אוֹפַן אֶחָד בָּאָרֶץ אֵצֶל הַחַיּוֹת לְאַרְבַּעַת פָּנָיו
OSI NOTE This is the pivotal moment. Ezekiel has been observing blended faces cycling through his line of sight from the spinning craft above — what appeared to be a composite of faces was actually four separate individuals passing the same point repeatedly. Now one wheel descends and a sphere deploys to the ground beside the beings — the plasma sphere node releasing from the craft's diagonal position and descending to surface level. As the sphere collapses on contact with the ground, the organism inside becomes visible. In that moment the count resolves: four faces, one per individual. Not one creature with four heads. Four separate beings, each with one distinct face, carried in four separate sphere nodes on one wheel structure. "For its four faces" is Ezekiel recording that realization — the wheel he sees on the ground accounts for all four. The Epic of Gilgamesh documents the same deployment mechanics: ground observers watch a sphere of light collapse into a descending streak before the organism becomes visible. Ezekiel is watching the same sequence.
Ezekiel 1:16–18 — Crystal, Wheel Within Wheel, Eyes
1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like the appearance of crystal, and the four of them had one likeness, and their appearance and their workings were as a wheel would be within a wheel. טז מַרְאֵה הָאוֹפַנִּים וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כְּעֵין תַּרְשִׁישׁ וּדְמוּת אֶחָד לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן כַּאֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה הָאוֹפַן בְּתוֹךְ הָאוֹפָן
1:18 And they had backs, and they were very high, and they were dreadful, and their eyebrows were full of eyes round about — so it was to the four of them. יח וְגַבֵּיהֶן וְגֹבַהּ לָהֶם וְיִרְאָה לָהֶם וְגַבֹּתָם מְלֵאֹת עֵינַיִם סָבִיב לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן
OSI NOTE Crystal appearance — not stone, not metal, not any opaque material. Crystal is the closest word Ezekiel has in 593 BCE for something transparent, luminous, and energetically active. The sphere nodes are transparent plasma boundaries — you can see through them. The organisms inside are visible through the field wall. This is why Ezekiel can describe what the beings look like — the plasma boundary does not block the view. It contains and illuminates. A wheel within a wheel — the inner cross structure nested within the outer luminous ring. The four of them had one likeness — four identical sphere node forms. Eyebrows full of eyes round about — four sets of large forward-facing orbital cavities cycling through the same line of sight as the craft rotates, merging into a continuous ring of eye-like forms. Persistence of Vision. Ezekiel describes exactly what a rotating craft carrying four large-orbital biological entities inside transparent plasma spheres looks like from directly below.
Ezekiel 1:19–21 — The Neural Interface
1:20 Wherever there was the will to go, they would go; there was the will to go, and the wheels would lift themselves correspondingly to them, for the will of the living being was in the wheels. כ עַל אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה שָּׁם הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת יֵלֵכוּ כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּאוֹפַנִּים
OSI NOTE "The will of the living being was in the wheels." The wheels contain and govern the will of the beings. The beings go where the craft takes them. Their movement, their position, their direction is determined by the rotation of the wheel. They are bound to it. They control nothing. The craft determines where they go.
Ezekiel 1:22–25 — The Crystal Hull
1:22 And there was a likeness over the heads of the living beings, of an expanse like the color of the severe frost extended over their heads above. כב וּדְמוּת עַל רָאשֵׁי הַחַיָּה רָקִיעַ כְּעֵין הַקֶּרַח הַנּוֹרָא נָטוּי עַל רָאשֵׁיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה
OSI NOTE The expanse like severe frost — the dark cross-body hull of the craft above the sphere node positions. Smooth, hard, frost-colored, enormous. The Hebrew qerach hannora — the terrible ice. Ezekiel is describing the underside of the hull from directly below.
Ezekiel 1:26–28 — The Hub and the Rainbow
1:26 And above the expanse that was over their heads, like the appearance of a sapphire stone, was the likeness of a throne, and on the likeness of the throne, was a likeness like the appearance of a man upon it above. כו וּמִמַּעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל רֹאשָׁם כְּמַרְאֵה אֶבֶן סַפִּיר דְּמוּת כִּסֵּא וְעַל דְּמוּת הַכִּסֵּא דְּמוּת כְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם עָלָיו מִלְמָעְלָה
1:28 Like the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness round about; that was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord, and when I saw, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice speaking. כח כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶעָנָן בְּיוֹם הַגֶּשֶׁם כֵּן מַרְאֵה הַנֹּגַהּ סָבִיב וָאֶרְאֶה וָאֶפֹּל עַל פָּנַי
OSI NOTE Above the crystal hull — a sapphire-colored throne with a humanoid figure seated upon it. The command hub at the geometric center of the craft. The same position the Vårby Hoard brooch encodes as the central raised boss. The same position the Surya Majapahit encodes as Shiva surrounded by the rainbow corona. The brightness round about like the appearance of the rainbow — the craft's electromagnetic field corona at the power generation hub. The same luminous multicolored signature described independently by four traditions across four continents: India, Peru, Scandinavia, and here, Ezekiel in 593 BCE beside the river Chebar.

Ezekiel falls on his face. He is below a rotating craft over 120 meters in diameter generating a visible electromagnetic field. His response is the only appropriate one.
"Believe nothing. Observe everything. Follow the fractal."
